Welcome to the very first film review on my page! The first review will be of a film I recently watched: Mutiny on the Bounty. Released in 1935 and starring Clark Gable and Charles Laughton, this was the first of three notable adaptations of the true story of the mutiny that occurred on the British HMS Bounty ship in 1789. The crew, led by the disaffected First Officer Fletcher Christian (Gable) mutinied against the cruel Captain Bligh (Laughton) who often ordered crew members flogged for even small transgressions, even causing some of the punished men’s deaths. The mutineers forced Bligh and eighteen crew members loyal to Bligh into a lifeboat and cast them adrift. But Bligh survives and comes back for revenge... The film won Best Picture at the Academy awards and rightfully so. It is a terrific film that shows not only the consequences of being cruel to subordinates, but the consequences of mutinying against a superior and the lack of sympathy one may face should they mutiny against a superior. All in all, I would recommend this film to anyone looking for a good 1930s film or looking for a good film about overthrowing a tyrant-like ruler. This film is GREAT on the rating scale.
