At a football game a while back, I received a request from a friend to review Shrek 2. Me, being a stickler, wouldn’t review Shrek 2 before reviewing the first Shrek, and I surprisingly got another request for Shrek 2 after the first Shrek review. So here it is, Shrek 2. After the wedding of Shrek (Mike Myers) and Fiona (Cameron Diaz), the two go to meet Fiona’s parents, the king (John Cleese) and queen (Julie Andrews) of Far Far Away. What the king and queen don’t know is that not only is Fiona’s husband an ogre, but so is Fiona. The king and queen have a very hard time accepting the two. Shrek also is having a hard time getting along with her parents, as they were the ones who locked her in the tower. Desperate for Fiona to be happy, and to get along with her parents, Shrek steals a potion called “Happily Ever After”, which Shrek believes will make everything better. Shrek and Donkey (Eddie Murphy) drink the potion, which causes Shrek and Fiona to become humans, and Donkey to become a white stallion. However, Prince Charming (Rupert Everett), resentful for his failed mission to rescue Fiona, having already been rescued, conspires with his mother, the Fairy Godmother (Jennifer Saunders), to get revenge on Shrek and take Fiona for himself. Shrek and Donkey, with the help of their new friend, Puss in Boots (Antonio Banderas), go on a mission to stop Prince Charming and get Fiona back. Shrek 2 isn’t as good as Shrek, but I honestly found it funnier than the first. It has a much more complex plot and introduces many more amazing characters while keeping the original characters intact. All in all, it is a great sequel and definitely one worth watching. I rate this film GREAT on the scale.
